dawn Landes

Biography

Singer-songwriter Frank Tedesso once described hers as a voice that seems to say I am so glad I woke up this morning. Dawns’ sound exists somewhere in between minimalist rock, literary folk and art-country. Her songs have been played on live acoustic radio shows (NPR’s WFPK Louisville, WBAI NYC, ivillage.com) and in NYC clubs like the Village Underground, the Bitter End, Makor, the Living Room, Meow Mix, and Cb’s Gallery. Earlier this year dawn played in front of enthusiastic college audiences at Yale, Sarah Lawrence College, Barnard, Columbia, Brown, the New School and NYU and embarked on her first International Tour in March, playing five venues in Prague, Czech Republic.

Meet dawn Landes, the 20 year -old singer-songwriter/musician from Louisville, KY. Since making the move to the big city, she has found her niche at the Jack Hardy song-exchange (formerly known as Fast Folk) where greats like Suzanne Vega have ventured to call her a song-writing heavyweight.

dawn is currently working on a cd with co-producer Felix McTiegue and engineer Pete Keppler (Steve Earle, the Eels, Jonatha Brooke) at Looking Glass studio where she doubles as an engineering intern. Her debut cd “the Musician” was recorded live last May in Nashville, TN with full band, including friend and drummer, Ray Rizzo (Days of The New) and several other players from back home. While in the city, Dawn continues to augment her songs with a variety of instruments … cello, upright-bass, keyboards, and interesting choices of percussion. She has shared the stage with a number of well-known acts including Fred Eaglesmith, Amy Rigby, Rainer Maria, and John Gorka.

Comments about 'A Well Dressed Man':

dawn Landes is one of the younger members of the Songwriter’s Exchange. This song covers one of the most horrifying aspects of the attacks; the “jumpers”, as they were called by the firemen and newspapermen on the scene. It was adapted from a poem by Frank Tedesso.
- Suzanne Vega

'A Well Dressed Man'

[ mp3 sound clip ]

I wont speak of it
I quit the stars
and I quit the rain
(eyelashes seemed like petals to me just the other night)
can a human animal be transformed by rhyme?
or must a blaze always be involved...
who would invent such a question?
I am almost a song
I am almost a dog
I am diminished by my words
It hurts
to see a well-dressed man, falling
there goes a well-dressed man falling out of his life

As long as the smallest thing that dreams, does
I will because (because, because)
as Long as there is slightly visible Poetry, Light
Light, Light, Light
I am calling out to light
I am calling out to life
and to the well-dressed man, falling
To the well-dressed man falling
I see a well-dressed man falling
I'm calling out to life
I am calling out to life
